ARIA BOOTCAMP

American soprano, Jennifer Rowley, is acclaimed world wide for her unforgettable voice and remarkable stage presence in a richly varied repertoire that spans many of opera’s greatest heroines. During the past several seasons, she has appeared at The Metropolitan Opera as Roxanne in Cyrano de Bergerac, the title roles inTosca and Adriana Lecouvreur, Leonora in Il Trovatore, and Musetta in La bohème, at Opernhaus Zurich as Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra, Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona in the title role of Aida, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Staatsoper Berlin, and Opera National de Paris in her signature role of Leonora in Il Trovatore, the National Theatre Prague as Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Musetta, among many others.

As an avid mentor to young artists, Ms. Rowley holds an annual Artist in Residence position at her alma matter, Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Music, and has held residencies with Fort Worth Opera, the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia, and the Vienna Summer Music Festival. Ms. Rowley is highly sought after for her masterclasses and seminar series, and has been invited as a guest lecturer and master teacher for young artist programs and universities nationwide. This mentorship and joy for developing the next generation of operatic artists led her to create her summer festival, Jennifer Rowley’s Aria Bootcamp.

Aria Bootcamp aims to assist young singers at every level in preparation for the fall audition season. From graduate school, to young artist programs, to emerging artists preparing to sing for managers and main stage auditions, the goal of Aria Bootcamp is to thoroughly prepare an audition package of five arias, strategize and understand the audition process, and record high quality pre-screening recordings for submission with applications. Aria Bootcamp also aims to focus on the technical aspects of singing and preparation by giving its participants a process for learning from the foundation. The curriculum includes body work, breathing, and alignment, vocal technique, diction and musical style for all languages and time periods, acting and building a character, audition technique, mock audition panels, and seminars on industry topics that young singers need for their budding careers.

Week One of Aria Bootcamp will focus on the foundation of your audition package with body work and alignment, diction coaching and translation, voice lessons, and audition technique. Acting coaching and building a character for an audition setting and video recording takes us into Week 2, where we will focus on musical style, musicality, and mock auditions. The final three days of the program will be recording days for 2 pre-screening recordings per participant with Simply Sing Studios. These days will also include industry seminars, masterclasses, and audition panels for singers of all levels of development.

Aria Bootcamp will run from August 7 through August 18, 2023 at the Sarasota Opera House, in Sarasota, FL.
